Read and discuss Scandinavian literature in translation as part of the Nordic Book Club. This month’s book is They Know Not What They Do by Jussi Valtonen. This psychological novel, set in the near future, focuses on a man struggling to protect his new family from violence. It was the winner of the 2014 Finlandia Prize, Finland’s highest literary honor. Kevin Doyle’s The 30 Year Old Virgin is an hour of stand up told as one long story. He grew up in a conservative Christian home and was saving himself for marriage. He was engaged but called off his engagement a month before his wedding and woke up in New York City, a 30 year old virgin. This show was previously staged at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. $10.
