Sock Hop Sunday, Belle Reve – Tribeca, 8pm – 1am

Belle Reve is hosting its first Sock Hop party. Records starting at 8pm during dinner service and a DJ and go-go dancer comes on from 10pm to 1am. Adult milkshakes, burger and hot dog specials running all night long. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Free.

Repeater: A Little Show About Big Songs, QED – Queens, 8:30pm – 10pm

Music fans Evan Forde Barden and Patrick Cartelli host this monthly talk show about people’s favorite songs. Each month, they invite a special guest to share one song that they love – be it an all-time favorite, a track that reminds them of a great story, or something that just blew their minds. Then a musician takes the stage to cover it and play a song of their own. Think “You Made It Weird” meets “VH1 Storytellers.” This month features Josh Sharp (The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, Joe’s Pub) and Jacob Sharp (Mipso, mandolin/vocalist). $5.

MulchFest, Various locations, 10am – 2pm

Recycle your holiday tree at MulchFest. Bring your tree to a designated city park to be recycled into mulch that will nourish plantings across the city. More than 26,000 trees were recycled last year. Find chipping locations here. Also happening on the January 7th. Free.

The White Dress is a coming-of-age story which experiments with form, melding language, music, and movement to explore the lives of people from various gender identities, expressions and sexual orientations. BEE is a play about Izat, a young Iranian girl trapped in an abusive marriage in the 1940’s. After years of suffering both physically and mentally at the hands of her spouse, she knows the only way she will survive is if she is able to leave him. In an unprecedented move, her father is able to use his influence to secure a divorce for her. The story intertwines with interviews from immigrants who have had to make the difficult choice of leaving their homeland because their survival was at stake.
