Home Front brings together six artists whose work explores public and private acts of strength and resistance by women in times of social or political upheaval. A prevailing theme is the idea of home itself, and, by extension, preserving associated cultural and familial traditions, as a political act in places where one is made to feel unwelcome or invisible (i.e. due to race, class, or immigration status), especially during times of transition or loss. Featuring artists Lauren Frances Adams, Golnar Adili, Aisha Cousins, Maya Jeffereis, Lorena Molina and Katherine Toukhy. Free.

Opening Reception for Shaolin: Into the 36 Chambers, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art – Staten Island, 2pm – 4pm

Shaolin: Into the 36 Chambers is a group exhibition curated by local artist Jahtiek Long.  Located in the Commons Galleries of the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, this exhibit pays homage to, explores, and celebrates Staten Island’s culture and cultural identity. Playing on the name given to Staten Island by the Wu-Tang Clan, Shaolin highlights the work of more than 15 artists from all corners of the borough. This exhibit is on display until May 6. Free.

Arts, Culture and Fun: Make Your Mark with a Watercolor Class, Greenbelt Recreation Center – Staten Island, 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Ashton Agbomenou will teach an adult art class on how to use lines, shapes, and colors to render an image. Bring an image you would like to paint during the two-hour session. Supplies will be provided and beginners are welcome. Free. RSVP.
