MulchFest, Various locations, 10am – 2pm

Recycle your holiday tree at MulchFest. Bring your tree to a designated city park to be recycled into mulch that will nourish plantings across the city. More than 26,000 trees were recycled last year. Find chipping locations here. Also happening on the January 7th. Free.

La Befana, Building P in Sug Harbor Cultural Center – Staten Island, 2pm – 4pm

La Befana is one of Italy’s oldest holiday traditions. La Befana is known to bring gifts to children at the close of the holiday season. According to legend, she was visited by the three wise men in search of the Christ child. She declined their invitation to join them but later regretted her decision and set off on her own, giving gifts to all children in case one was the Christ child. Enjoy an afternoon of special activities at Snug Harbor, including making your own La Befana and learning a traditional Italian dance. $10 for adults, $5 for kids.
