The Experimental Self: Edvard Munch’s Photography, Scandinavia House – Murray Hill, 5:30pm – 6:30pm

The Experimental Self: Edvard Munch’s Photography brings the photographic work of the master painter to New York City for its first showing in the U.S. Internationally celebrated for his paintings, prints, and watercolors, Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863–1944) also took photographs. This exhibition of photographs, films, and a small selection of prints by Edvard Munch emphasizes the artist’s experimentalism. Free.

Performances by Reenactment artists Maria Hupfield and Alicia Grullón, followed by a discussion moderated by Harry Weil, Manger of Programs at Green-Wood Cemetery. Electric Prop and Hum Freestyle Variations Studio is a twenty-minute performance piece by Hupfield, presented in collaboration with fellow BRICworkspace artist-in-residence, Tusia Dabrowska. The multi-media performance incorporates scored and un-scored movement, sound, and vocalizations to intervene in BRIC’s gallery. Free. RSVP.

Antigone in Parkchester is a free, interactive performance of scenes from Sophocles’ Antigone, an ancient play about a woman who decides to honor her brother and disobey the state, presented in English with Bengali interpretation. “Spotlight on Still Life”, curated by artist Ann Marie McDonnell, presents photography from the faculty and students of Curtis High School who were part of an educational program that focuses on the history of the still-life genre through painting and photography, as well as contemporary approaches.
