Lighting of the World’s Largest Menorah, Grand Army Plaza – Midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn, 3:30pm – 4:30pm

See the lighting of the world’s largest menorah at Grand Army Plaza in Manhattan. The menorah is 32 feet tall and weighs about 4,000 pounds. The lighting of the largest menorah in Brooklyn will happen at the same time. Free.

Astronomy: The Geminids Meteor Shower, Salt Marsh Nature Center – Brooklyn, 7pm – 8:30pm

See one of the best meteor showers, producing up to 120 multi-colored meteors per hour at its peak. Astronomy programs feature the use of telescopes and binoculars to observe specific astronomical events. Free.

Karaoke Tremendous is like the karaoke you know, just turned up to 11. It’s like a hybrid between a dance and karaoke party. Free.

Teen Digital Media Winter Showcase: Stories Well Told, Chelsea Recreation Center, 5pm – 7pm

Celebrate the amazing mixed media created this fall by young people in and around NYC Parks’ recreation centers! There will be photography and graphic design exhibits, play-testing of newly-created video games, a video screening, youth-made music, and a showcase of arts/tech projects. The Rainbow Flag, the international symbol of LGBT liberation and pride, will be unveiled in a special ceremony at the historic Stonewall National Monument. This event marks the first time that the LGBT flag waves over federally-funded land, under the permanent stewardship of the National Park Service. Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank on Mystery Science Theater 3000) hosts a variety/stand-up show in the guise of a fake kid’s show. Frank hosts the show in character as Moodsy, the Clinically Depressed Owl, and shows a bunch of weird and crappy old cartoons between stand-up, music and sketches. $6.
