Sock Hop Sunday, Belle Reve – Tribeca, 8pm – 1am

Belle Reve is hosting its first Sock Hop party. Records starting at 8pm during dinner service and a DJ and go-go dancer comes on from 10pm to 1am. Adult milkshakes, burger and hot dog specials running all night long. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Free.

Repeater: A Little Show About Big Songs, QED – Queens, 8:30pm – 10pm

Music fans Evan Forde Barden and Patrick Cartelli host this monthly talk show about people’s favorite songs. Each month, they invite a special guest to share one song that they love – be it an all-time favorite, a track that reminds them of a great story, or something that just blew their minds. Then a musician takes the stage to cover it and play a song of their own. Think “You Made It Weird” meets “VH1 Storytellers.” This month features Josh Sharp (The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, Joe’s Pub) and Jacob Sharp (Mipso, mandolin/vocalist). $5.

Recycle your holiday tree at MulchFest. Bring your tree to a designated city park to be recycled into mulch that will nourish plantings across the city. More than 26,000 trees were recycled last year. Find chipping locations here. Also happening on the January 7th. Free.

Holiday Party With Live Jazz, Blood Root Valley – Staten Island, 1pm – 3pm

Join a special holiday party with live jazz music by former Blue Note recording artist, George Braith and his band.  Braith has played with greats such as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and Dizzy Gillespie and invented the double-sax called the Sopralto Braithophone. Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank on Mystery Science Theater 3000) hosts a variety/stand-up show in the guise of a fake kid’s show. Frank hosts the show in character as Moodsy, the Clinically Depressed Owl, and shows a bunch of weird and crappy old cartoons between stand-up, music and sketches. The story intertwines with interviews from immigrants who have had to make the difficult choice of leaving their homeland because their survival was at stake.
