Around NYC Today (1/18) Disco Get Down, Monotony, Selective Perception Party

THINGS TO DO

Disco Get Down, Tony Dapolito Recreation Center – Greenwich Village, 5:30pm – 8pm

Come dressed in your disco best for a fun night of indoor roller skating! There will be a live DJ, a photo booth, and much more. Skates will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own pair. Socks are required. Free. RSVP at disco-getdown0119.eventbrite.com .

Selective Perception Opening Party, Elsewhere Loft – Brooklyn, 7pm

“Selective Perception” is an exhibition of vector illustrations by Claudine Eriksson, Andrea Johansson and Darcy Moore. This will be the female design collective’s third exhibition in New York City. A series of works that demonstrate the multi-faceted meanings of a single word will presented by each designer in the exhibition. Each work calls attention to the diverse associations viewers have with a single word’s visual or written meaning. 3xStudio will be donating 10% of the proceeds from “Selective Perception” to the ACLU. Free. RSVP.

Monotony, Caveat – LES, 9pm – 11pm

Monotony lets comedians and storytellers go deep on their weird obsessions with seemingly boring things. Their passion and (lets face it) disturbing breadth of knowledge on topics like The Science of Urinal Cakes and The History of the Rubber Duck will leave you laughing — and possibly leaving with a brand new obsession of your own. This month’s featured guests include James Hamblin (The Atlantic), James Patterson (Comedy Central), Lillian DeVane (Reductress), Liz Miele (Comedy Central), Mehran (Last Comic Standing) and Rae Sanni (President Show). Hosted by Raj Sivaraman, a Jeopardy! runner-up, writer, comedian, scientist, and co-host of the Universe City podcast. $8.
