This is acoustic instrumental meet-up focuses on tunes in the Irish, English, New England Old Time, French Canadian, American Southern, and Scandinavian traditions. Tunes are those that are typically suitable for contra dancing or other traditional fiddle tunes. This group is intended to provide a musical home for people interested in playing tunes with other musicians, learning to play by ear and overall increasing their own musical skill. You don’t have to be a great player, play in tune, or know the songs to give it a shot. $5 suggested donation.
Act One: One Act Festival, The Secret Theatre, 44-02 23rd Street – Queens, 7:30pm
Get ready for the America’s Got Talent of theater. The Secret Theatre’s Act One: One Act Festival is a competition-style one-act play festival held annually in Long Island City. Your vote helps determine which of the 20 or more entries advance to the finals, and there are cash prizes to be had for the winner. With both comedic and dramatic playwrights showcasing their best short works across several nights, it all adds up to multiple opportunities for great theater. $9.
