Kick off the season New York style at the Seaport District Holiday Block Party. Starting at 5pm, there will be a variety of musical performances, free hot chocolate, and the countdown to illuminate the Seaport Christmas Tree. Free. RSVP.

Shelf Life: New Works, Made from the Archives, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, The Bruno Walter Auditorium, 111 Amsterdam Ave – Upper West Side, 6pm – 8pm

New music and theater works inspired by Sonny Rollins, Meredith Monk, Alvin Lucier, Bob Moog, Carla Brey, and James Turrell. New School University students, led by acclaimed saxophonist and composer Jane Ira Bloom, present new music and theater works inspired by and incorporating the Library’s archives. Free. RSVP.

Lighting of the World’s Largest Menorah, Grand Army Plaza, Fifth Avenue between West 58th and West 59th St, 5:30pm – 6:30pm

See the lighting of the world’s largest menorah at Grand Army Plaza. The menorah is 32 feet tall and weighs about 4,000 pounds. Free.

Winter Village, Bryant Park, 8am – 10pm

Enjoy local crafts, artisanal food, and goods from around the world. The Winter Village also features New York City’s only free admission ice skating rink. Free.
