242nd Commemoration of the Battle of Fort Washington, Cafe Lawn in Fort Tryon Park, 12pm – 3pm
This year marks the 242nd anniversary of the Battle of Fort Washington, a key event during the Revolutionary War. The Brigade of the American Revolution will perform and lead drills. Come to watch a blacksmith demonstration, listen to live 18th-century music, make arts and crafts, and play games from the revolutionary period. Tour the battle scene with a tour guide dressed as heroine Margaret Corbin. Free.
Artists Walk & Talk: Persuasive Visions, 218th Street and Indian Road in Inwood Hill Park, 1:30pm – 2:30pm
Join an artist walk and talk to celebrate a new temporary public art exhibition, Persuasive Visions. Inspired by W. E. B. Du Bois’s conviction that propaganda through the arts can create social change, Persuasive Visions presents the work of two local artists, Gina Goico and Nick Kozak, who respond to today’s constant deluge of (mis)information. Free.

Border Crossings: This and Other Worlds is a series of programs, performances, and installations that takes inspiration from global practices of honoring those who are no longer with us e.g. El Dia de Los Muertos (the Mexican “Day of the Dead”); the Buddhist and Taoist “Ghost Festival” of Zhong Yuan Jie; the Christian holiday of All Souls Day; and Qingming or “Tomb Sweeping Day”, a traditional Chinese celebration.
