Bryant Park Classics BookClub: ‘This Side of Paradise,’ Reading Room in Bryant Park, 12:30pm – 1:45pm

Join fellow enthusiasts and expert literary facilitators to discuss the classics under the canopy of the park’s London Plane trees. Stop by the Reading Room and get your free book for the discussion, available while supply lasts. This week’s book is This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Hosted by Sally Koslow, author of Another Side of Paradise. Free.

Brooklyn Traditional Slow Jam, Old Stone House in J.J. Byrne Playground, 336 3rd St – Brooklyn, 7pm – 9pm

This acoustic instrumental meet-up focuses on tunes in the Irish, English, New England Old Time, French Canadian, American Southern, and Scandinavian traditions. Tunes are those that are typically suitable for contra dancing or other traditional fiddle tunes. This group is intended to provide a musical home for folks interested in playing tunes with other musicians, learning to play by ear, and, overall, increasing their own musical skill. Free.

New York Euripides Summer Festival Presents ‘Suppliants,’ The East River Park Amphitheater in John V. Lindsay East River Park – LES, 6pm – 7:30pm

Enjoy a fully-staged production of Suppliants by the American Thymele Theatre. Suppliants follows widows and children of war victims who go to Eleusis, near Athens, to seek justice and permission to bury their dead heroes. Free.

Sunset Salsa, Pier 45 at Hudson River Park, Hudson River Greenway, 6:30pm – 9pm

Every Tuesday, Hudson River Park hosts a Salsa dancing night with some of NYC’s best DJs. Beginner Salsa dance lessons from 6:30pm – 7:15pm followed by a dance party. Free. RSVP.

Bryant Park Poetry: W. W. Norton, Reading Room in Bryant Park, 7pm – 8:30pm

Join us for the Bryant Park Reading Room Poetry Series. This week’s program is produced in partnership with W. W. Norton. Featuring the poets Tina Chang, Kimiko Hahn, Donna Masini, and Jill Bialosky. Free.

Strictly Tango at Washington Square Park, Holley Plaza in Washington Square Park, 6pm – 8pm

Put on your dancing shoes and learn with Strictly Tango NYC Dance School. They bring you “the authentic Buenos Aires Tango feeling.” Come with your partner, your friends or come by yourself and find a new dancing partner. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled. Free.

Stargazing, The High Line at 14th Street – Chelsea, 6:45pm – 9:30pm

Head to the High Line for a walk along the park and a chance to take a closer look at the stars. Peer through high-powered telescopes provided by members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York to see rare celestial sights. Free.

Bryant Park Knitting Class, Upper Terrace in Bryant Park, 1:30pm – 3pm

Swing by for free instruction from yarn store Knitty City, and knit with fellow enthusiasts. Yarn and needles provided. Classes are weather permitting. Free.

Herald Square Reading Room, Herald Square, 10am – 5:30pm

Enjoy free use of newspapers and magazines at outdoor Reading Rooms. Located both in Herald Square Park and Park East at One Penn Plaza, Reading Rooms are staffed with a coordinator for recommendations. Free.
