Brooklyn Beach Sports Festival, West 10th Street Boardwalk Entrance in Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk – Brooklyn, 11am – 4pm

Compete in pull-up, chin-up, and dips competitions on the beach! Check-in starts at 10:00 am and the competitions start an hour after. Men, women, and children are welcome to compete. Free.

West African Dance Class, Morris-Jumel Mansion in Roger Morris Park, 65 Jumel Terrace – Washington Heights, 12pm – 1:30pm

Join a West African Dance Class led by world renowned drummer/teacher Yahyah Kamate. Free.

Smorgasburg Prospect Park, Breeze Hill in Prospect Park – Brooklyn, 11am – 6pm

Smorgasburg, the celebrated open-air food fair presented by Brooklyn Flea, returns to Prospect Park this spring! Over 100 local and regional food purveyors will gather to offer a range of cuisines. Free.

Harlem Meer Performance Festival, Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in Central Park, 110th Street between Lenox Avenue and Fifth Avenue – Harlem, 2pm – 4pm

The 25th annual Harlem Meer Performance Festival brings the best local talent to Central Park. This week features Queens-based Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, which will perform excerpts from “Boda Mexicana” (Mexican Wedding), including dances from the Yucatán peninsula, the Andean-influenced music from Guerrero, and the Aztec suite “Mexican Tiawi,” pronounced meh-shee-kaw tee-aw-wee, which translates to Mexicans onward. Free.

Community Rowing, Pier 40, Houston Street and the Hudson River Greenway, 12pm – 12:30pm
Village Community Boathouse is offering free sessions that include a basic introduction to rowing for first timers (safety orientation, rowing technique, and terminology) and plenty of actual rowing on the Hudson River. The rows take place in five-person wooden rowboats that Village Community Boathouse builds on site. No experience is necessary though rowing does require some physical dexterity. Free.

Freshwater Fishing, Harlem Meer in Central Park, 110th Street and Lenox Avenue – UWS, 12pm – 1:30pm

Catch-and-release fishing is a great way to get outdoors and discover nature just a few blocks from home. You can try to hook a pumpkinseed sunfish, carp or chain pickerel. Whether you choose to grab a simple bamboo pole at a quiet lake or join more advanced saltwater programs, there’s a program that fits your skill level.  All equipment is provided. Free.
