A Midsummer Night’s Dream imagines New Yorkers – the buskers, the lovers, the neighbors, the leaders – as the wild and magical spirits of Shakespeare’s classic comedy. Free.
Smorgasburg Prospect Park, Breeze Hill in Prospect Park – Brooklyn, 11am – 6pm
Smorgasburg, the celebrated open-air food fair presented by Brooklyn Flea, returns to Prospect Park this spring! Over 100 local and regional food purveyors will gather to offer a range of cuisines. Free.
Scandinavian Music Festival Concert Series, Billings Lawn in Fort Tryon Park – Inwood, 2pm – 3:30pm
The String Orchestra will perform works by Frank Foerster, Jean Sibelius, Ture Rangstrom and Knudage Riisager. Free.
Public Art Opening Reception: Picnic by Tamara Johnson, Suydam Street and Knickerbocker Avenue in Maria Hernandez Park – Brooklyn, 2pm – 7pm
This sculpture was made specifically for Maria Hernandez Park and the surrounding Bushwick community. The hand-cast concrete picnic serves as a tribute to the familiar picnic, turning a temporary happening into a static monument for participation and contemplation. Please join the artist for a community picnic to celebrate this new installation. Free.
Harlem Meer Performance Festival, Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in Central Park, 110th Street between Lenox Avenue and Fifth Avenue – Harlem, 2pm – 4pm
The 25th annual Harlem Meer Performance Festival brings the best local talent to Central Park. Featuring Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater, a critically-acclaimed modern dance company with Latin influences, presents “Lively Moods”. Dances range from “Tengo Un Amor” (I Have a Love), with Mexican songs by Lucha Reyes, to “Love Mask”, a comedy to music of Mozart with surprise audience participation. Free.
Tango in the Park, West Fountain in Stuyvesant Square, 6pm – 9pm
Enjoy a wonderful evening of music, dance, and song in the beautiful historic Stuyvesant Square. Professional tango instruction will be provided. This event will take place in six sessions on Sunday. Free.
Kayaking and Canoeing, Hallet’s Cove, 31-10 Vernon Blvd – Queens, 1pm – 4pm
