Kerouac International Festival, Instituto Cervantes – Midtown East, 7pm – 9pm
The Kerouac Festival is an international event that started in Spain, in the city of Vigo, seven years ago. This is the event’s third edition in New York. Featuring poetry and performances from Sheila Blanco, Francisco Castro, Nono the Poet, Raul de Nieves, Bonafide Rojas, Juan Luis Landaeta, Nicolas Linares and Vanesa Alvarez. Free. RSVP.
Quiescence, Scandinavia House – Midtown, 7:30pm – 9:30pm
This audiovisual work, a collaboration between visual artist Anna Fríða Jónsdóttir, musician and artist Abraham Brody, and cellist Ásta María Kjartansdóttir, interprets a quest for the silence that can be found in abundance in their native Iceland. The performance plays on the connection between the deep silence in nature and the perception of balance and rhythm. $7 – $12.
