Around NYC Today (1/25) Brian Hill & The Noh Starrs, Jo Firestone, Lady Macbeth

THINGS TO DO

Bookmaking Workshop, Greenbelt Nature Center in Blood Root Valley – Staten Island, 4pm – 5:30pm

Learn about the Freshkills Park transformation, see examples of native and invasive plants, and create your very own passport-sized field notebook using paper that’s made from plants at the park. This workshop is part of an ongoing art project called UnCommon Pages, where artist Susan Mills has made paper sheets from an invasive plant found at Freshkills Park called Phragmites, reimagining the plant as a form of recycled art. Free.

Edvard Munch and August Strindberg, Scandinavia House – Murray Hill, 5:30pm – 7pm

As programming for the exhibition The Experimental Self: Edvard Munch’s Photography, Professor Linda Rugg of UC Berkeley will be presenting a lecture on the relationship between Edvard Munch and August Strindberg, and the relationship of both artists to photographic self-portraiture. Free. RSVP.
