New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, Times Square, Dec. 31 (Sun), midnight
Times Square is synonymous with New Year’s Eve. To get a good spot when fireworks explode and confetti go airborne, show up at around 3pm. You’ll need to navigate a maze of street closures and endure an outdoor version of a packed subway ride for hours. Check out the schedule of the pre-ball drop show here.
New Year’s Eve Fireworks Celebration, Grand Army Plaza – Brooklyn, Dec. 31 (Sun), 10pm – 11:59pm
See Brooklyn’s answer to the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. Featuring a performance by Quintessential Playlist starting at 10:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at the stroke of midnight. Free. RSVP required.
New Year’s Eve Celebration and Fireworks, Coney Island Beach and Boardwalk, Dec. 31 (Sun), 6pm – 11:59pm
Greet the new year with live music and Coney Island’s side show performances. Go on rides such as the Thunderbolt Roller Coaster, The B&B Carousell and Deno’s Wonder Wheel for free (weather permitting). There will also be fireworks display at the stroke of midnight. Free
